SUPPLY LIST

  • ***10% discount on supply list items available at Stony Brook***
  • Your kit includes sneaker soles, padded insoles and the sneaker pattern and guide, as well as the small tools needed to assemble your sneakers. All other tools will be provided for your use in class. Please make sure when you register, you indicate what size shoe you need, and if you prefer black or white soles! These must be ordered in advance. The soles are sized in European sizing and you need to order them in European sizing. Please note soles are not available for sizes under 36 and above 47.
  • Note: commercial brands Dansko and Birkenstock fit like our soles. There is no need to size up. Wide soles are not available from the manufacturer, but the soles are a little wider than traditional American women’s shoes. Check the universal commerce label on the inside of a pair of sneakers that fit you well for the EU size.
  • Supply List:
  • You will need the following:
  • Fabrics
  • 1/2 yard quilt-weight cotton for uppers (Fat Quarter preferred – 18″ x 22″) 1/2 yard quilt-weight cotton for lining (Fat Quarter preferred – 18″ x 22″) Optional: quilt-weight cotton for tongue (10″ square is sufficient; more for fussy cutting) 4 bias strips, 1.75″ wide x 24″ long Sizes over 42: cut bias strips 27″ long Sizes over 42: 1/2 yard each of upper and lining fabric Want contrast? Flip the tongue to show the lining fabric–or use a third fabric just for fun! Bias strips may match or contrast with your exterior fabric.
  • Interfacing & Structure (Required)
  • 1/2 yard double-sided fusible foam interlining (Bosal In-R-Form, Soft and Stable by Annie’s, or Pellon Flex-Foam FF79F2 recommended) 1/2 yard midweight woven fusible interfacing (such as Pellon SF101) These materials give the sneakers their structure. Substituting or omitting them will result in soft, slipper-like shoes. Do not use unwoven interfacing–it will break down with wear.
  • Notions & Tools
  • Thread to match or coordinate with fabrics Shoelaces Hi-tops: 60″ Classic & ultra-low: 45″ 60″ laces available for purchase in class ($6/pair) Fabric marker you can clearly see (Frixion, Pentel Gel Fabric Pens, or other heat-removable pens recommended) No chalk or Chaco markers Sharp sewing shears & thread snips Rotary cutting tools (optional if prep is done ahead) 6″ x 24″ ruler Fabric clips or small binder clips Fray Check or seam sealant Sewing machine in good working order Basic sewing supplies – if you have pattern weights they are handy Optional: mini iron and pressing surface Pre-Class Prep (Required)
  • To ensure success, ALL FABRICS MUST BE QUILTED BEFORE CLASS. Students who do not complete pre-class prep may not finish a shoe during class time.
  • Cutting Instructions
  • 18″ x 22″ (sizes over 42: 18″ x 25″) Cut one from each:
  • Upper fabric Lining fabric SF101 Fusible foam 10″ x 10″ (sizes over 42: 10″ x 12″) Cut one from each:
